On the Sorbs' traces in Bautzen
St. Mary's and St. Martha's Church

The largest Protestant church in the Evangelical Lutheran parish of St. Peter's is the St. Mary´s and St. Martha´s Church on August Bebel Square.

St. Mary's and St. Martha's Church in Bautzen is the largest Protestant church of the Lutheran congregation in Bautzen. The history of the church goes back to the "Chapel of St. Martha and Mary Magdalene", which was located at the street called "Steinstraße". The laying of the foundation stone of today's church location took place at the end of the 19th century. The construction of the catechism and garrison church in neo-Gothic style is based on plans by the Dresden architect Christian Schramm. In the 20th century, the St. Mary's and St. Martha's Church was extensively renovated and retrofitted with an Eule organ. Today the St. Mary's and St. Martha's Church is known far beyond the borders of the district for its various concert events, also including Sorbian concert literature. Mehr
