Jan Radyserb-Wjela Monument

In memory of the most productive and popular Sorbian writer of the 19th century. Most of his life he spent in Bautzen.

At the corner building Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 2 / Taucherstraße Johann Wehle is remembered on a plaque. This building was the residence of one of the most productive and popular Sorbian writers of the 19th century. Growing up in the surroundings of Bautzen, he attended the first teacher training seminar in Bautzen. Later he belonged to the founding committee of the Sorbian scientific society "Maćica Serbska". Most of his works were published by the company's publishing house. In 1950, a Sorbian nursery was founded at the "Friedrich-Engelsplatz 8" in Bautzen. In honor of the teacher, poet and writer, folklorist and petty bourgeois democrat it was named "Jan Radyserb-Wjela". Mehr
