On the Sorbs' traces in Bautzen
The Bishop Beno House

The former manor is today the educational, conference, accommodation and event location of the diocese of Dresden-Meißen.

The Bishop Beno House is located not far from Bautzen, directly on the Via Regia. Today, the former manor is an educational and conference facility of the Dresden-Meißen diocese. It is named after Bishop Beno, who was Bishop of Meissen in the 11th century. Because he had the main part in the Christianization of the Sorbs he is called "Apostle of the Sorbs" . Before the property was bought at the beginning of the 20th century by the diocese of Meissen, it had numerous owners over the centuries. Until the end of the 2nd World War, it served the Catholic Church as a seminary for priests. After the complete renovation of the estate in 1992, it has not only served as an educational and conference centre, but also as a holiday domicile and venue for events. Every year in summer the music festival Schmochtitz takes place here, which attracts many hundreds of visitors. Mehr
